Abstract

Introduction: Since ancient times, Suryanamaskara has been revered as a complete yogic discipline promoting health and vitality. Ayurvedic and modern perspectives highlight its therapeutic role in stimulating abdominal organs, improving digestion, enhancing metabolism, and addressing stress-induced digestive disturbances. Methodology: The review compiles references from classical yogic scriptures, Ayurvedic texts, and contemporary scientific literature. The practice was assessed for its postural sequence, synchronized breathing, and mindful engagement, focusing on their effects on gastrointestinal function, metabolic regulation, and overall digestive health. Result and Conclusion: Emerging evidence suggests that Surya Namaskar can modulate gastrointestinal motility, stimulate abdominal organs, and positively influence the gut–brain axis. Clinical studies indicate benefits in conditions such as constipation, functional dyspepsia, and irritable bowel syndrome, though findings remain mixed due to variability in study design and quality. Mechanisms proposed include rhythmic intra-abdominal pressure changes, enhanced parasympathetic (vagal) activity, and stress reduction, all of which support digestive health and overall well-being.
