Aging, Ayu hraas, Medha, Vaya
The classics have categorised Vayas into Baalya (undeveloped), Madhya (developed) and Vruddha (degenerative) Avasthas, they have observed changes occurring during growth and the initiation of decrement of certain faculties of the body. Acharya Vagbhatta was the first one to record such an observation which was followed later by Acharya Sharangdhara. Acharya Vagbhata and Acharya Sharangdhara have given the concept of ‘Ayu Hraas Krama.’ In consonance with this, different components of human body decrease in different decades of life. Both the Acharyas have presented an interesting scheme for loss of different biological factors during the lifetime, in the process of ageing in different decades. An attempt regarding establishing a relation between Ayu hraas krama with sequential biological loss with ageing has been established in the article.
